Learning languages presents us with opportunities to use language in order to link people locally and globally, past and present.

At Ormiston Primary School learners will use language to explore languages other than their own; questioning, inquiring and reflecting about the different languages and cultures of the people in our school.

“Language is the road map of a culture.  It tells you where its people come from and where they are going.” ~ Rita Mae Brown

Learners will use the three national languages (English, Maori and NZ Sign Language) of New Zealand to communicate, receive and co-construct information and to demonstrate social awareness when interacting with others.

Learners will make connections with known cultures through language and participate & contribute within different communities, making meaning and communicating through the selection and use of language, symbols, and texts.
